Most women will need to have monitoring in pregnancy. We monitor the baby’s heart rate using a CTG. This is a big bulky machine that needs to be constantly readjusted. It isn’t portable and women are often pinned to a bed during these monitoring sessions. The CTG was developed in the 1960s and the design hasn’t changed.

We have developed a new monitoring device for pregnancy. It is small and portable. It consists of a sticker and a small hardware device that clips onto the sticker. It wirelessly trasmits the baby’s heart rate to a computer. This new technology opens up the possibility of at home monitoring for women needing frequent monitoring sessions. It will also allow women to be active in labour which will be a game changer.
