Carrier screening
January 25, 2023

This is a test to see whether the mother or couple have an increased risk of having a baby with certain genetic conditions. These genetic conditions are what we call recessive conditions, where the individual has an abnormal copy of the gene but also has a normal copy of the gene, which means they themselves are not affected. If the other parent is also a carrier of an abnormal copy of the gene then there is a chance the baby might have received two abnormal genes (one from the mother and one from the partner) and will therefore have the disease. This test can let us know if you and possibly your partner are carriers for the most common genetic conditions. Take a look at this link if you would like to know more information.
